May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ continue to dwell in your hearts and your homes. Holy Week is the most solemn of weeks for all Christians. This year is no exception. It is painful for all of us not to be able to gather at our spiritual home. This is a sacrifice that we are all making. Sacrifice and suffering are central to this entire week. This week I invite you to join me in offering this sacrifice and our own fasting. Almsgiving and prayer to the Lord.
Bishop Brennan has asked us to direct all the faithful to Pope Francis Holy Week Services or to the services that he will celebrate at St. Joseph Cathedral. Schedules and websites are included with this letter. I hope to have a video of Easter Sunday Mass to share with you.
Social media has become a most important means of communication these days. None the less, my hope is to back away from technology on Good Friday. The only way I know to embrace the solemnity of that day is through a greater silence and quiet prayer. I invite you to join me in that hope of silence and prayer on Good Friday or at least some part of that day.
When the day arrives for us to gather once again around the altar of the Lord there will be a new joy in each of our hearts. Until then, please know of my sincere love for you and daily prayers for God’s blessing to you and your loved ones. I miss you dearly.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Kevin J. Kavanagh
